ACADEMICS
You will take prerequisite courses your freshman and sophomore years
at your home school in preparation for U4C. Included in the
prerequisite coursework is the School of Urban Ministry.
This program has been training Christian leaders to build ministries
cross culturally in the city for over ten years. SUM is a
six-credit, two semester course that meets one night a week in South Minneapolis as an
introduction to the city, a place to build confidence, and way for
you to get a taste of what your year abroad will be like.
Core classes for U4C are taken during your year abroad, living as a
resident of South Minneapolis. Intended to challenge, the classes
are taught by faculty on-site at a classroom in St. Paul’s
Evangelical Lutheran Church…which is just a couple of doors down
from the U4C house. Although readings and papers are inevitable,
many classes will include field trips in which you will have to get
out of the classroom and into your new neighborhood!
